Glimmer alert! This post mentions
soft spring rains
puppy dog noses
long walks on warm evenings with a loved one
the smell of jasmine on the night breeze
waking up without an alarm
the sound of running water in a small stream
the smile of a stranger
the first cup of tea of your day
the feeling of fresh clothing on your skin
starlight reflected in a lake
your best friends' voice on the phone
I see trigger alerts warning of the negative feelings a topic might engender is so many places. Yet we are surrounded by glimmers - "glimmers" refers to small moments when our biology is in a place of connection or regulation, which cues our nervous system to feel safe or calm
There is a great deal written about our "getting what we focus on" and if that is true - do you want to focus on triggers or glimmers? I don't actually think it's a straight up choice, but just the awareness that the opposite of triggers are out there and accessing them can help our self regulation.... well, it gives me a glimmer of hope!
