🟡 Practice. Pause. Progress.

I just had the pleasure of doing a mentor coaching session with two up-and-coming coaches. Each of us took 25 minutes to coach, followed by a debrief where the real magic happened.

We asked three deceptively simple questions:

  • What went well?

  • What would make the coaching even better if...?

  • What are the next steps?

The richness of the discussion blew me away. We explored:

🔹 Spotting and using the client’s own language

🔹 Gently challenging assumptions without confrontation

🔹 Using models without becoming rigid

🔹 Asking questions that compare and contrast perspectives to unlock insight

But the real takeaway?

👉 The pause after the practice is where progress lives.

That moment of reflection, collaborative, curious, non-threatening, is where we integrate learning. Reflection doesn’t just review the past, it rewires the future. And when done consistently, it builds coaching fluency far faster than just more practice. Studies show that feedback processed in a calm, reflective state is more likely to be retained and applied!

So next time you coach, try this little ritual: ✨ Pause🖊 Reflect📈 Ask yourself: What will I do differently next time?

You might be surprised how much growth happens between the lines.
