/rɪˈleɪ.ʃən.ʃɪt/noun

Derivation: relationship + shit

Definition: A LinkedIn connection that technically qualifies as a relationship, despite neither party knowing quite who the other person is.

Typically maintained through occasional likes, automated birthday wishes, generic congratulations and comments such as “Great insights!” or "Let's connect and swap ideas" on posts that have clearly not been read.

May remain dormant for several years before suddenly reactivating with:

“I’ve been following your work for some time…”

Usually followed by a sales pitch.

Usage: “He comments ‘Thanks for sharing’ on everything I post, but I’m fairly sure we’ve never met.”

“Relationshit.”
