Setting an Intention versus setting goals

Inspired by the dynamic duo of Michael Bungay Stanier and Jason Fox, I set my intention for 2022 around the end of December 2021.

Oh I had my goals (the ever popular Dry January, planking for 1 minute a day for a year and reading 10 minutes a day every day), but by setting an intention I gave my self permission to experiment, reflect and riff on my intention.

In making my 2022 The Year of the Player Coach, I have found myself on a journey akin to driving in heavy fog: never quite sure what was might appear in the mist or which direction the road might take.

The player coach (also playing coach, captain-coach, or player-manager) according to Wikipedia is "a member of a sports team who simultaneously holds both playing and coaching duties. A player-coach may be a head coach or an assistant coach. They may make changes to the squad and also play on the team."

Setting the intention of the player coach led me to a new role and, a very different lens to view my work with and within my team. It has also created some great conversations with my coach around my expertise and my career experience to date.

So as we head into the "resolution" time of year - why not try setting an intention and see where it takes you?
