Do We Spend Our Days, or Live Them?

I recently came across the line: How we spend our days is how we spend our lives. And since then I’ve been wondering about the word spend. To me spending sounds transactional, like time is a currency that disappears the moment it’s used.

Yet when I look at my days, they don’t feel like spending, they feel like living.

Hugging the people who matter.

Reading.

Savoring a fresh coffee.

Walking the dog.

Writing.

Watching the rain fall through the leaves.

None of that feels spent, much more it feels like an accumulation.

Maybe the better line is this:

How we live our days becomes the life we remember.
