Stop, Look, and Listen: The Art of Slowing Down

🖼️ Why You Should Slow Down at Art Galleries 🖼️

Recently, I did something I haven’t done in years: I spent hours in an art gallery. Just me, the paintings, and a whole lot of silence. No distractions, no rush.

Still life - some of the quietest art in existence

Here's what happened 👇

The Power of a Quiet Mind: In a world that constantly screams for attention, standing in front of a painting in silence is… almost radical. You’d be surprised at what you notice. The tiniest details, the subtlest brush strokes, colors that you missed at first glance — it all starts coming together.

I found myself truly absorbed in the layers, the texture, the story within the canvas. It was like meeting the artist, decades or even centuries after they’d finished their work.

And I saw a lot of people whipping out their phones, taking a picture and dash off to the next Renoir, Monet or Titian

Letting the Art Speak: At first, you might feel a bit restless (I certainly was. But then, as you let each painting speak, you begin to see beyond the frame. You see the world through a different lens, a new perspective. And that shift? It's worth every second.

Why am I sharing this? Because it reminded me of something essential in both life and business:

Slow down to truly see

Next time you’re in an art gallery (or facing a challenge at work), try it. Take a deep breath. Let silence do its thing. You might be amazed at what you discover.

What’s something in your life that deserves a closer look?

Attention is borrowed from your future self

Every time you give your attention to something now, you are taking time, energy, and mental clarity away from yourself later. It doesn’t feel like that in the moment. It often feels small. harmless.
