The Pattern Is There

At first glance, this image looks like chaos. A tangle of brushstrokes. Movement with no clear direction.

But keep looking.

Give it time.

Suddenly, something shifts. You start to notice rhythm.

Repetition.

Flow.

What once felt messy reveals structure.

What looked overwhelming becomes intentional.

This is how patterns speak to us. Not in a shout, but in a whisper. Not in the first glance, but in the second, or the seventh.

In coaching, I’ve seen this truth unfold again and again.

A client sits in confusion, trying to make sense of a career crossroads, a difficult relationship, a string of failures that don’t seem to add up. But somewhere in the story, often hiding in plain sight, is a pattern.

Noticing that pattern is the first step to reclaiming agency.

Behavioral science calls this “schema recognition”, our brain’s ability to extract rules or meaning from complexity. But here’s the catch: we’re not wired to see these patterns unless we pause, reflect, and get a little help zooming out.

This is why reflection matters. This is why coaching matters.

We need space to notice. We need silence to interpret. We need patience to realize that life might not be random, just intricately layered.

So if you're in the middle of something that feels tangled or senseless, don’t rush to “fix” it.

Try this instead:

🔍 How to Recognize the Pattern When You Feel Stuck

1. Name what repeats. What emotions, behaviors, or themes keep surfacing? Don’t judge, just observe.

2. Ask, “What might this be trying to teach me?” Patterns are rarely pointless. They often carry a message.

3. Zoom out. Look not just at the moment, but at the arc. What’s the story this moment fits inside?

4. Slow down the reaction. Noticing the pattern gives you power, not to control, but to respond with more clarity.
