Making Space for Insight and Trust

Silence is golden in coaching and communication. It allows for deeper reflection, insight, and trust.
Yet, silence can feel awkward if not embraced intentionally.
The Power of Silence: Holding silence signals respect and encourages others to explore their thoughts fully.
It also creates a calm, safe space for dialogue
Practical Tips for Holding Silence:
Pause for 3-5 Seconds: After someone speaks, wait before responding. This shows you’re considering their words
Normalize Silence: Say, “Take your time; I’m here to listen,” to make it feel less awkward
Watch Non-Verbal Cues: If someone looks uncomfortable, gently prompt them with, “Would you like to share more?”
Remember in fast-paced cultures, silence may feel unnatural. Frame it as “time to think” to ease discomfort
Try it for yourself: In your next meeting, practice pausing for three seconds before responding. Reflect on how it changes the dynamic.
