The Gloaming

The time of day just before and after the sun sets

And on a recent holiday, about an hour before sunset my family and I would get in the car and drive to a beach or a forest and sit outside and just watch the light change, the clouds move across the sky, listen to the wind in the leaves or the waves on the shore, bird song or gull cry.

Those times are so precious. A shared experience of awe, an appreciation of the natural beauty we all too often take for granted or compartmentalize in our busy lives.

As the year turns (in the global north) take time to reconnect with the nature around you. Reset and feel the world around you.

Attention is borrowed from your future self

Every time you give your attention to something now, you are taking time, energy, and mental clarity away from yourself later. It doesn’t feel like that in the moment. It often feels small. harmless.
